Air pollution control

In 2023, our total air pollutant emissions amounted to 268.91 thousand kilograms, showing a 1.3% increase from 265.36 thousand kilograms in 2022.

Hon Chuan follows regulations and continuously optimizes pollution control equipment maintenance. By improving pollution control at the source, we effectively manage air emissions to reduce operational risks and environmental impacts.

Management Approach

Goal
Short-term goal:
  1. Reducing pollutant emissions to prevent air pollution incidents, and establishing emission factors for major VOC sources within the facility.
  2. Ensuring the effective operation of pollution prevention equipment in all areas to prevent any unauthorized pollution emissions.
  3. Utilizing UV inks for plastic cap printing to reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
Mid and Long-term:
  1. Phasing out gravure label printing and fully upgrading to flexographic printing with eco-friendly processes to reduce VOC emissions.
  2. Introducing green manufacturing practices, investing in low-carbon production equipment, and developing environmentally friendly recycled materials.
Management
  1. External verification of ISO 14001 and regulatory audits, as well as reporting operations.
  2. Quarterly review meetings to discuss improvements in pollution emissions.

Implementation approach

  1. According to the Environmental Protection Agency's issuance of fixed pollution source permits, we implement regular inspection, maintenance, and record-keeping for raw materials (fuel), products, process equipment, pollution control equipment, and monitoring facilities to ensure the effective implementation of improvement measures.
  2. We have engaged an environmental consulting company to assist in conducting comprehensive inspections throughout the entire plant, guiding environmental health and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, totaling 45 person-times.
  3. Regular training sessions on air pollution, water pollution, and waste management have been conducted, involving a total of 1,102 personnel.
  4. Each plant has adopted the ISO 14001 environmental management system to monitor and control air pollution emissions within the factory premises.

The primary air pollutant emitted from our company's facilities is volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In our Packaging division, the main source of VOCs is the plastic injection molding process, while in the Beverage division, VOCs primarily stem from chemicals used in process equipment cleaning and sterilization.

Since purchasing our first flexographic printing equipment in 2019 and a second one in 2023, we have been gradually planning to replace gravure printing equipment with flexographic printing equipment. This transition is expected to reduce VOC emissions by over 95%.
