Energy Management

In order to respond to international trends of energy conservation and carbon reduction, THC continues to implement energy saving measures, improve energy efficiency, and add energy saving equipment:

  1. Increased energy efficiency:promote energy/electricity reduction projects in 2023 to lower energy consumption.
  2. Shift toward lower emissions:plan to increase the solar energy system.
  3. Use of recycling:reduce energy-generated waste by reusing and recovering heat energy.
  4. Internal and external cooperation:promote carbon reduction plans with the government, NGO, academic institutions, and professional institutions.

Energy Consumption and Intensity
In 2022, the total energy consumption increased by 1.42% compared to 2021. The reason was the increase in orders and production. Moreover, the production capacity and turnover increased, the overall efficiency of the production line improved, and our company's effective use of energy, so the energy intensity decreased.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions

THC proactively took Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory (direct and indirect from imported energy) in 2019. We have been conducting third-party verification since 2021. The scope of the inventory includes indirect GHG emissions from transportation(upstream transport, downstream transport, employee commuting, and business travels) and indirect GHG emissions from products used by the organization (emissions from purchased goods and the transportation for waste disposal). We also expanded to the overseas plants in the future.

  • Direct GHG emissions were 16,670 tons of CO2e, which increased by 15.2% in 2022 due to increased orders and production.
  • GHG Reduction: We use the distance from the preform plant or THC Taichung Plants to clients’ plants as the standard. The trip is then calculated on the basis of transporting preforms instead of PET bottles, where the trips of transporting PET bottles is then replaced with deducted from the trips of transporting the preforms. Then, the estimation is made based on the carbon emission coefficient of trucks given on the website of the Carbon Footprint Information Platform. It is concluded that 208.5 tons of CO2e emission (scope 1) generated in transportation has been reduced in 2022.
  • In 2022, the energy consumption categories are primarily electricity used in product manufacturing and natural gas, gasoline, diesel, and purchased steam used by employee vehicles and forklifts. Indirect energy GHG Emission was 73,819 tons of CO2 equivalent which increased by 2.4% in 2021.
  • GHG emissions intensity (scope 1 and 2) decreased by 3.45% compared with the last year, due to production line efficiency improvements and energy reduction measures.
